Course Description
This course will cover essential watercolour principles for painting loose landscapes, capturing the beauty of natural scenes with this enchanting medium. Techniques such as wet-on-dry, wet-on-wet, glazing, negative painting, and layering will be included. We will explore free-flowing compositions inspired by photo references and real-life subjects. Designed for students with some prior watercolour experience, this course aims to elevate their skills and creativity.
In this course, you will learn:
- Build greater fluency with foundational watercolour methods, including wet and dry applications, glazing, negative shapes, and layered washes.
- Develop the ability to create loose, expressive landscape compositions with strong movement and atmosphere.
- Learn to simplify complex landscapes into strong shapes and focal points.
- Gain confidence working from both photo references and real-life observation.
- Learn to paint open, atmospheric landscapes with a more relaxed and fluid approach.
- Deepen understanding of light, shadow, and colour relationships to create space and visual interest.
This course is hosted online. Live classes will be presented on Zoom and a link to the recurring meeting will be emailed to students ahead of the first class as well as being included on the course’s Brightspace home page. As such, students are required to have access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access during class time. Access to a web camera and microphone is strongly recommended.
