Course Description

Painting en plein air, or painting outdoors is a rich and exciting experience! Taking advantage of the warmer temperatures in the spring, this course will involve a combination of in studio projects and painting on site at different locations within Halifax. We'll cover accessible ways to paint outdoors including: techniques for capturing the environment with acrylic paint, sketching and preparatory studies, tips for handling both natural and urban landscapes, and work on developing confident brush strokes and observational skill. Students will have the option of working in a sketchbook, using a box easel, or working with a traditional easel for outdoors. We'll discuss all of these options on day 1 and how to build a box easel using inexpensive materials. This class is a great follow up for those who have taken Introductory Acrylic, Landscape Painting, or Introductory Drawing!

Students are required to supply some materials for this course.
