Course Description

Make do and Mend takes a punk approach mending skills, mixing zines and hand stitching techniques with simple mending life skills and basic clothing alteration know-how. Shifting who holds the knowledge of craft-based skills sets within our communities is an intentional act of material activism that challenges the ways we relate to textiles and making in our everyday lives. Students will learn how to customize and repair their own clothes through darning, embroidered patches, appliqué, and how to complete basic alterations such as: hemming jeans, sewing on buttons and putting in zippers. Students are encouraged to bring in the clothes they’d like to repair or personalize, in addition to working on in class projects.

Students are required to supply some materials for this course.
