Course Description

Explore the world of the winged in this online course! Designed for intermediate students or those with a bit of prior experience in watercolour painting, this class will teach you about the marvels of the insect world by working from studies of butterflies, beetles, bees and more! Students will explore more in-depth watercolour techniques with professional artist, Lisa MacPherson.
In this course, students will:
- Strengthen watercolour skills through close study of butterflies, beetles, bees, and other winged insects.
- Practice and refine techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, glazing, layering, and negative painting to capture delicate details and luminous colour.
- Develop greater confidence in observing and painting intricate patterns, textures, and wing structures.
- Explore both carefully detailed studies and more expressive, flowing compositions inspired by the insect world.
- Combine multiple techniques to create finished insect paintings that feel cohesive, vibrant, and personally expressive.
Students will need to supply their own materials.
