Course Description

This course introduces students to the possibilities of colour found in the plant material all around us. From kitchen waste (including onion skins, avocados, and tea) to foraged plants (including acorns, applewood and goldenrod) students learn to extract and experiment with colour. This course covers preparing fabric (scouring and mordanting), a variety of techniques for extracting and shifting colour, and thickening dye for printing and painting. With an emphasis on reconsidering waste, this course covers the tools, materials and techniques needed for safe home dyeing to create beautifully dyed fabrics of your own.

Although this is intended as an introductory level course, all skill-levels are welcome!
