Course Description

Turning attention to the intimate ways of hand-building we will explore various ways of making functional vessels and objects using our hands. Over this 7-week course, you will become well acquainted with the clay and will develop a symbiotic relationship. You will also be introduced to multiple surface design techniques including under-glaze transfers and Mishima.

In this course, you will learn: 

  • The basics of hand building techniques with clay: pinching, coiling and slab-building
  • How to make 3D objects such as mugs, vases, jars, wall art and more

  • An understanding of the nature of clay

Student materials and all required tools will be provided, though all students are welcome to bring any tools of their own.
