Charlotte Marble’s professional experience and training in visual art and education have contributed to her extensive knowledge of art education, visual literacy, studio practice and art history. She has developed thoughtful and creative courses for children, youth, adults, ESL students, seniors, and academic professionals, resulting in a flexible and organized teaching style. As a visual artist and art educator, Charlotte’s goal is to engage students through creative methods of technique, process, investigation, critical thinking, and enjoyable constructive art practice. She believes that making art, whether you are a novice or professional, helps develop imagination, creativity, focus, and confidence; which in turn can inspire curiosity, risk-taking, and fulfillment. “People should enjoy the process of making art of all kinds!” For over fifteen years Charlotte has taught visual art through public and private schools, art galleries, and universities. She holds a certified Nova Scotia teacher’s license and has designed and taught art courses, workshops and art education courses for NSCAD University, Mount Saint Vincent University, Capital Health, HRSB (now HRCE), and The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. She has created and taught courses in drawing, painting (oil and acrylic), sketchbook development, ceramics and mixed media to a wide range of learners; as well as visual literacy and art education to teachers and student teachers. Charlotte’s academic achievements include four degrees in creative arts and education. She holds degrees in Master of Education and Bachelor of Education (Mount Saint Vincent University) where she focused on visual art education. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) where she concentrated on studies and studio practice in acrylic and oil painting, ceramics, art history, and scenic painting for theatre. From Dalhousie University Charlotte holds a Bacherlor of Arts degree in Theatre Studies where she studied acting, directing and playwriting. Additionally, Charlotte has worked in TV/film as a production assistant, in theatre as an actor and scenic painter, overseas in Japan as an ESL teacher, locally as an assistant gallery director, as well as a decorating counsultant at a paint shop! Experiences from these positions have also contributed to her flexible and well-rounded teaching practice in visual art!
