Course Description

In this summer camp students will learn different clay techniques such as: pinching, coiling, slab building, carving, texturing and throwing on the potter's wheel. Students will use these skills to create many different items; there are no limitations to what they can make or create. The class will focus on functional objects as well as sculptural art pieces, and will provide an exciting experience of the fundamentals and nature of clay. Everyone will have many pieces to take home and be proud of for years to come.

Large Scale Sculpture (July 17-21)
In this class, students will work on predominantly one sculpture for the entirety of the week. This will allow students to expand on their ideas and knowledge of the materiality of the clay. We will start the week off by looking at many sculptural ceramic works, and some brain exercises to get those creative juices flowing. We will discuss general building techniques, internal structures, and strategic drying. Each student will have a one-on-one meeting with the instructor to game plan their ideas and come up with a clear plan on how to build their sculpture.
