Course Description

If you are going to pursue the career choice of being an artist then it's important to understand that even as 'outsiders' that there is a system that we often work within. Christopher Webb is going to discuss how to quietly have an understanding of the economics of art, how we need to use the tax structure to our advantage and how setting yourself up as a sole-proprietor is an easy but necessary step. We are also going to talk about your art suit. And my art suit. And art suits in general.

The TD Financial Literacy program for Creative Entrepreneurs provides vital career information, flash mentorship, financial literacy, and skill-building in small groups with plenty of opportunity for conversational learning and networking. These free workshops are led by successful creative and business practitioners with a breath experience and career success in the creative sector. 

Christopher Webb is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist who continues to make his mark in the arts community. Over the years, while Webb has been represented by commercial galleries, he has also participated in exhibitions curated by public institutions. Webb is an active member of the arts community. He has hosted 35 bi-weekly segments for Global TV Maritimes called The Visual Arts Abstract which aired over a 2-year period concluding in 2021. In 2006 was named the President of Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS – representing Nova Scotia’s artists) and is also a past board member of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and has served on many juries including Arts Nova Scotia. Webb also leads Art & Cultural Excursions every year to Italy. He currently resides with family in Halibut Bay, Nova Scotia.
