Course Description

Through exploration of concepts, materials, and processes, students will become familiar with the fundamentals of drawing and painting. This class will introduce the elements and principles of art and design, and will aid students in developing the representational and conceptual creation skills essential to a career in fine art, illustration, or graphic novels. A considered approach to materiality will be taken using acrylic and watercolour paint, as well as ink, conte, pastels, pencils, and charcoal for a variety observational in-class exercises. Art is transformative, reflective, and experiential, and students will be encouraged to be adventurous and original in their search for their artistic voice and position in the world of art.

In this course, you will:

  • Develop your drawing skills and improve confidence in drawing.
  • Explore a variety of media and get comfortable using different mediums.
  • Make interesting art and build independence.

All materials are provided. Students should wear clothes they don't mind getting messy to class.
