Course Description

This class is an ideal pick for anyone with a keen interest in painting the human figure and for returning students looking to broaden their skill set! We’ll explore the process of painting from life through a series of projects designed to build direct observational skill and confident material handling. We’ll cover both portrait and figure studies with projects that include: painting and drawing from a live model, working with photo references, and self-portrait studies using a mirror. Students can expect to finish the class with a better understanding of gesture, composition, colour and light, proportion, simplifying complex forms, and the theoretical issues involved in representing the figure.
“Introductory Acrylic Painting”, or having equivalent experience is recommended for this class.
