Lisa MacPherson is an artist and educator based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with over twenty years of experience teaching learners of all ages. Originally from Ottawa, she began her teaching career at the Visual Arts Centre in Montreal. Since relocating to Halifax in 2012, she has continued to inspire students at NSCAD University’s School of Extended Studies, as well as in schools, community organizations, and online platforms.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Arts from Concordia University (2005) and a Master of Arts (MA) in Art Education from NSCAD University (2024). Her academic work includes curriculum development and research focused on materiality, process, and creative practice.
At the core of Lisa’s personal artistic practice is a lifelong dedication to drawing and painting, with watercolour emerging as her primary medium in recent years. Known for being challenging, watercolour requires both precision and flexibility—qualities that resonate deeply with her approach to artmaking. She values its immediacy and unpredictability, using these challenges to explore the balance between control and experimentation.
In addition to her work as an artist, Lisa is a professional calligrapher. She has been honing her skills in pointed pen calligraphy for over a decade and has developed a unique style that merges the expressive qualities of drawing with the finesse of letterforms. Her ongoing collaboration with Paper Chain Stationery features bespoke watercolour and calligraphy works, thoughtfully integrated into their stationery collections.
