Course Description

In this course we'll cover creating your own book, whether that's the novel you want to self-publish, a photo book from a family event, or a collection of recipes to turn into a cookbook. We'll learn about concepts and considerations in designing your publication: organising your content, interior page layouts, parts of the book, typography, genre specifics, integrating images, paper stocks, cover designs and publishing options. This course is technology agnostic: students can choose their software of choice, whether that's Adobe InDesign, Affinity Publishing, Canva, or Scribus. Students should come prepared with some knowledge of their chosen program's interface, and an initial idea and content for their chosen book project as a starting point. Through presentations, discussions, demonstrations and in-class assignments, students will work towards completing a print-ready first draft of your own book.
