Figure Drawing for teens! A great way to build a portfolio!

Putting the FUN in fundamental skills, this course will cover the basics of figure drawing before delving into the wild world of material exploration! With a focus on movement, flow and composition of the pose, students will learn how to depict a diverse range of bodies with a mix-media approach. More than just studies, these drawings will come together as a collage of work showcasing the beauty of the human form. This course will teach bodily proportions, traditional and expressive mark-making techniques, and how to capture the essence of a pose. Students will choose new materials to play with alongside figure drawing staples like pencils and charcoal. Once they've learned the basics, they will discover a figure drawing practice unique to them!

In this course, you will learn:

  • The fundamentals of figure drawing, including body and facial anatomy, perspective, and foreshortening

  • Observational measurement, composition skills and posing

  • Experimental figure drawing practices including gesture drawing, blind contour, and collaborative drawing

  • Expressive mark-making techniques in a variety of drawing materials
