Course Description
Have a sewing machine but not sure where to start? This is the class for you! Sewing Machine 101 will guide you through the parts of your sewing machine - starting with the simple stuff. Learn how to take care of your machine and learn how it functions to give you the confidence to starting your sewing journey! We’ll examine the inner mechanics of sewing machines to gain a better understanding of how they work. Then, we’ll learn how to preform basic sewing machine maintenance on new and vintage machines to keep them running at their best.
In this course, you will learn to:
- Identify the names of all the parts of a sewing machine
- How to thread your machine and best practices
- Basics of sewing. I.e. hems, seam allowances, controlling speed, selecting stitchparameters.
- Preform basic maintenance (cleaning, replacing needles, oiling, fixing bobbin tension)
- Basic understanding of mechanics (clearing basic jams, identify parts that may needreplacing, etc.)
- How to identify when you need to take your machine in for service/repair
If you have your own sewing machine, it is encouraged (but not required) to bring it to class!
