ESDR-0111 - Introductory Drawing
Course Description

This introductory drawing course is open to all wanting to hone their drawing skills or to try something new! The course will cover subjects of the still life, the nude figure, environment, and different approaches to drawing built through observation. A variety of drawing techniques and drawing media will be explored through exercises in studio work, as well as through discussions. This course is suitable for those working on their portfolio for admissions to NSCAD.
In this course, students will learn:
- Properties of drawing material & supplies including papers, charcoal, graphite, chalk, and conte.
- How to draw from observation, properties of illusionistic space, and basic perspective.
- Drawing basics: line, tone, form, expressive mark making, shading, and rendering light & depth.
- How to work with various subjects starting with Still-life and moving through Landscape, Portrait, and Figure Studies.
- Students will gain the confidence to take on projects of their own. This course is an excellent start for students looking to continue on to take Introductory Painting or Illustration Courses, and for those working on a portfolio for Admissions to NSCAD.
Students are required to supply some materials for this course.
