Course Description

Learn how to make your own customized artist books, journals, notebooks and albums. By adapting historic models from the Asian, Egyptian and European traditions you will learn to make your own books suited for your artistic projects. Whether you are a photographer, printmaker, textile artist or writer, you can adapt these projects to exactly fit your projects. The letterpress equipment in the Dawson Printshop will be used to print unique title pages or decorative covers for the final project, which will be a hard cover book suitable as a diary or studio journal.

Tuition includes paper and binding materials for four in-class projects: notebook, concertina binding, Coptic binding and hardcover journal. Bring scissors, ruler, and pencil to the first class. Students may provide special papers, if desired.
